€50,000 a year in the Netherlands: how much is that net?
If you earn €50,000 gross a year including holiday allowance, you take home about €3,020 net per month in the Netherlands in 2026, and about €39,140 net per year. Calculate your own salary with the Dutch take home pay calculator.
From annual to monthly salary
Dutch job ads usually quote annual salaries including the 8% holiday allowance (vakantiegeld). At €50,000 a year, your gross monthly salary is €50,000 ÷ 12 ÷ 1.08 = €3,858. If the ad says “excluding holiday allowance”, simply divide by 12.
Table: gross annual salary to net (2026)
Annual salary including holiday allowance, with payroll tax credit, no pension contribution:
| Gross per year | Gross per month | Net per month | Net per year | Average rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| €30,000 | €2,315 | €2,142 | €27,754 | 7.5% |
| €40,000 | €3,086 | €2,601 | €33,714 | 15.7% |
| €50,000 | €3,858 | €3,020 | €39,140 | 21.7% |
| €60,000 | €4,630 | €3,402 | €44,094 | 26.5% |
| €75,000 | €5,787 | €3,976 | €51,523 | 31.3% |
| €100,000 | €7,716 | €4,839 | €62,711 | 37.3% |
Net per month excludes holiday allowance; net per year includes it.
Why you keep less of each extra euro
From about €29,000 a year the Dutch general tax credit is phased out, and from about €45,000 the labour tax credit as well. On every extra euro you don’t just pay 35.75% or 37.56% tax, you also lose part of those credits. The rate on an extra euro (marginal rate) is therefore around 50% at a €50,000 salary. Of a €2,000 annual raise, you keep about €1,000.
Expats and the 30% ruling
If you qualify for the 30% ruling, part of your salary is paid tax-free and your net pay is considerably higher than in this table. The calculator does not include the ruling; check your eligibility with your employer or the Dutch Tax Administration.
Pension and other deductions
In practice you almost always pay a pension contribution. At 6% of €50,000, that is about €250 a month gross, but because it is tax-free, your net pay drops by only about half that. A company car, travel allowances or a 13th month also change the result.
