How to calculate how many days old you are

· Calcosmo editorial team

You know your age in years, but how many days old are you? Enter your date of birth in the age calculator to see your age in years, months, weeks and days, plus how long it is until your next birthday.

Worked example

Someone born on 1 January 2000 is, on 6 October 2026:

  • 26 years, 9 months and 5 days old
  • 321 months old
  • 1,396 weeks and 3 days old
  • 9,775 days old

That person turns exactly 10,000 days old on 19 May 2027.

How to work it out yourself

You can estimate the number of days with: age in years × 365.25. The 0.25 accounts for leap years, which add an extra day (29 February) every four years. For 26 years that gives 26 × 365.25 ≈ 9,497 days, plus the days since your last birthday.

For an exact count, you need to add the leap days between your birth date and today. That is exactly what the calculator does. Note that 1900 and 2100 are not leap years, but 2000 was. Century years are only leap years when divisible by 400.

Fun milestones

  • 1,000 days: about 2 years and 9 months.
  • 10,000 days: about 27 years and 4.5 months. A popular excuse for a party.
  • 15,000 days: about 41 years and 1 month.
  • 20,000 days: about 54 years and 9 months.
  • 1 billion seconds: about 31 years and 8 months.

In Excel or Google Sheets

Put your date of birth in cell A1 and use =TODAY()-A1 for the number of days. =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"y") gives your age in whole years.

Why would you want to know?

Besides being fun, ages in days are useful for babies (often counted in weeks), medical forms, rules that apply from an exact age and, of course, planning a party on your 10,000th day. Want to know how old you are if you were born in a certain year? See the age table by birth year.
